Ride around the Sawtooths

By kumakahn - Posted on 08 March 2016

Last fall, I spent a week riding and camping around the Sawtooths and had so much fun I want to do it again.  It was cold (28 degrees one morning), but at least there were no bugs.  It was my first ride on the new F800 GS Adventure, and I was alone.  So, I didn't do much off-road.  But, there are so many great places to see and camp that the whole trip felt like one big wilderness ride.  I camped at Stanley Lake, next to the Salmon River, at Lake Alturas, and at Redfish (where I enjoyed some nice meals at the lodge).  I met a guy from Lake Tahoe on a Pan American, and I participated in a work conference call from Stanley Lake.  I caught fish.  Anyway, I wouldn't mind some good company to do it again this year.  I am fairly open to the timing, although it is much better to go in spring or fall, or at least mid-week during the summer, to avoid the crowds. I hear there is a lake in the White Clouds that one can ride to, and that might be fun.  I would still consider myself a beginner, especially after seeing some of the things you more experienced riders can do.  But, I can get around fire roads just fine. No matter what road you are on in the Sawtooths, you are in the middle of some of the most beautiful country on earth.   Let me know if you are interested.  You can reply here, call me at 208-571-214, or email me at  Thanks.
