Ride Description:

On this member ride we will visit three of this year's challenge sites - #27-Three Forks Hot Springs, #28-Spencer Reservoir, and #29-Swan Falls Dam.  This route covers approximately 350 miles, so we will need to move at a fairly brisk pace.  If time permits after crossing the Swan Falls Dam (south to north), we will visit Higby Cave on the Army National Guard Training Area.

#27-Three Forks Hot Springs

#28-Spencer Resrvoir

#29-Swan Falls Dam

We will leave from the Gem Stop Chevron Station at 8:00 AMTop off with gas because it will be ~180 miles to the next gas (passing back through Jordan Valley on our way to Spencer Reservoir after visiting Three Forks Hot Springs).  We will approach the Three Forks Hot Springs from the west side so that we can ride right to the spings and will not have to ford the Owyhee, which most likely is still running high at this time.  Bring your swim suit and a towel; we will take a short soak in the Three Forks Hot Springs.  From Three Forks Hot Springs we will retrace our route back to Jordan Valley, top off with gas, and move onto Spencer Reservoir (~100 miles from Three Forks Hot Springs).  From Spencer reservoir we will go up over Backman's Grade enroute to Swan Falls Dam (~46 miles).  After crossing Swan Falls Dam, we will head across the Army National Guard Training Area back to Boise via Pleasant Valley Road.  If time permits, we will visit Higby Cave, an apprpoximate 4 mile detour from the Range Road.  From Jordan Valley back to Boise it is ~190 miles along this route with the only gas inbetween being at Murphy, a 10-12 mile round trip detour from our route.

Bring a lunch and adequate water since we will not have time to stop for a restaurant meal.  The one technical (level 3) section of the ride of which I am aware is the last half mile descent into the Snake River Canyon before crossing the Swan Falls Dam.
