Level 3 rides will include rutted double track, and uneven roads. These may be rocky and difficult at times. A 1200GS or similar bike will feel heavy in this terrain, and will require an experienced rider. A moderate rider on a 650cc bike will be able to maintain 20 to 30 m.p.h. without a load. Little or no single track will be present on a level 3 ride. You may encounter moderate water crossings (less than knee high). Expect higher average speeds on easy sections of the route.
Promontory Point Transcontintenal Rail Road ride.

Big Lookout Mountain
Sat. Oct. 18th 2014
I was joined by Coolsen and Ridefar at the Gas Station on the corner of HWY 30 and Hwy 44 off the Middleton Exit at 9:00 am. We set off for a chilly ride out to Big Lookout Mountain, taking Hwy 30 to Hwy 52 through Payette and then the 201. I had never been on this section of road and it ended up being a really nice drive. 201 follows the Snake River and made for some great views and fun turns.

Ride Description:
This day ride will be an opportunity to visit two of this year's Challenge Sites - #34 Jump Creek Falls and #1 South Mountain LO. We will meet at 7:15 AM (Rockies Diner on Overland) for those who want breakfast before we start, and we will be underway by 8:00 AM. After visiting these two sites, we will return to Boise via Silver City and Murphy, then cross the Swan Falls Dam and come across the National Guard Training Site to Pleasant Valley Road. One section descending into the Snake River Canyon at the Swan Falls Dam is a level 3 (rocky and fairly steep). The rest

If you have not made it to this challange site come join me. Small bikes encouraged. We will be taking the scenic route to avoid the freeway as much as possible. Taking HWY 30 to 52 then 201 there will be some freeway but in Oregon its only 65. I only ride a little 350 so 65mph is about tops. Pack a Lunch and some hiking boots in case the gate is closed.

Ride Description:
I'm going to ride to Big Hazard and Rainbow Lake Challenge sites on Saturday Sept 13th, and then Gold Fork LO on Sept 14th... I'll be Tent camping on my property near Donnelly at 2545 Westwood Dr, on Friday and Saturday nights and you are welcome to join me there either or both nights... there is plenty of room for tents and bikes, but no water on site. The nearest FS pit toilet is a mile down the road. It's a nice place to camp.
